Veneers are one of the most popular and effective treatments for an ultimate smile makeover. Not only can they redesign the size, shape, and alignment of your smile, but they offer a virtually permanent tooth whitening solution! However, if you’re a lover of coffee, then you might wonder if it can still stain your enhanced pearly whites. Keep reading to learn how a cup of joe can affect your veneers and ways to prevent staining them.

Can You Drink Coffee with Veneers?

Veneers are typically made of non-porous porcelain, meaning they are highly resistant to stains compared to your natural teeth. It’s important to remember that before getting your final set, you’ll need to wear temporary ones. These are mostly meant to protect your enamel from damage as well as to test your cosmetic results. They’re also less resistant to stains than your permanent ones.

Since your veneers won’t discolor as easily as your natural teeth, you’ll be able to enjoy a cup of coffee as often as you want! However, frequently drinking dark-colored beverages can still stain the bonding agent that cements your porcelain shells to your smile. While the front of your pearly whites will remain bright, the other surfaces of your permanent teeth can darken over time.

How Can You Prevent Staining Your Veneers?

Drinking coffee or other dark-colored liquids excessively and often can gradually discolor your veneers. To avoid this and maintain their shiny results, you can practice the following methods:

  • Avoid staining agents: By moderating or eliminating dark-colored foods and beverages from your daily diet, you can prevent your veneers from getting stained in the long run. But if you must eat or drink them, try to use a straw to minimize their contact with your new teeth.
  • Practice good dental hygiene: Make sure to continue brushing and flossing your smile every day. Stick with regular toothpaste, as whitening products might be too abrasive and can damage your veneers. You can also rinse your mouth right after drinking coffee to reduce discoloration.
  • Visit your dentist: If you’re concerned about staining your veneers, then your dentist can provide professional cleaning to avoid this. They may also be able to repolish their surface or use specialized toothpaste to brighten them.

By practicing these few tips, you can continue to enjoy coffee while maintaining a beautiful and long-lasting smile! And if you have any questions, feel free to speak with your dentist for help.
