There are many common fears that people have, like public speaking or being too high in the air. Visiting the dentist can be added to that list, too. According to a recent survey conducted by DentaVox, roughly 61% of people reported having dental fear. This can be attributed partly to not wanting to be judged because of “bad teeth” or not visiting the dentist in a long time. Here are four reasons to let go of your fears and visit your dentist for a checkup and cleaning!

Your Dentist is Not Judging You

No one wants to be judged, especially for something as personal as a smile. You may be fearful of being criticized by your dentist about the condition of your teeth, especially if they are discolored, broken, or missing. Or you may be scared of what they will think if you need certain procedures due to cavities.

But the truth is that a good dentist is a professional and will not judge you in any way. It is their job to help you and your teeth become as healthy as possible and they will do everything they can to take care of any dental problems you may have.

You can let go of your fear of being judged by keeping these helpful factors in mind:

#1. Your Dentist Has Seen Worse

Every experienced health professional has seen their fair share of severe issues, especially dentists. You can be assured that you’re likely not the worst case they’ve ever seen. A compassionate, professional dentist will simply look at your problems and find a solution to make you healthier.

#2. Your Health Can Worsen

Research has proven there is a definite link between your oral health and overall physical health. When you neglect to take care of your pearly whites, you put your body at risk of serious health conditions. By maintaining regular dental appointments, you are not only keeping your oral health in check but your entire body, too!

#3. It May Be a Fixable Problem

Are you worried that it is too late for your teeth to be fixed? Fortunately, that is far from the truth! Thanks to advancements in dental technology, there are more solutions than ever before to help a broad range of oral health problems. Certain treatments can help you return to a complete, healthy smile!

#4. Your Dentist Can Help Prevent Future Problems

Your teeth might be in bad shape now and without getting professional help, they are only going to become worse. With your dentist’s help, you can reverse certain problems and even prevent future ones from occurring. Early intervention is the name of the game when it comes to dental health!

While it’s perfectly normal to be afraid of going to the dentist, those fears can be alleviated with the truth about oral health and the care of a wonderful dentist. A healthy, bright smile is waiting for you when you overcome them!
