However, there are many types of milk on the market. While they offer various benefits, not all are safe for your dental health. Here’s how to choose the best milk for your smile.

1. Cow’s Milk

Cow’s milk is preferred among dentists and healthcare professionals because it is a great source of calcium and vitamin D. The two are vital for replenishing minerals in the teeth to make them more resistant to decay. Milk remineralizes your enamel to keep your teeth strong and healthy.

2. Soy Milk

Soy milk is a popular option for people with lactose allergies or wanting an animal-free alternative. It contains plenty of calcium and vitamin D to support a healthy smile; however, soy milk is known to increase the acid responsible for tooth decay. One study found that bacteria introduced to soy milk create 5-6 times more acid, which can significantly increase your risk of decay.

3. Almond Milk

Almond milk contains a lot of calcium per cup; however, the plant-based product doesn’t have any vitamin D. Many manufacturers fortify almond milk with vitamin D to make it healthier for your teeth and bones. Unfortunately, many also add sugar to sweeten the taste. Too much sugar can wreak havoc on your enamel. It’s best to choose an unsweetened variety to protect your smile.

4. Coconut Milk

Coconut milk is a popular beverage because it’s loaded with a variety of benefits. Coconut is a natural solution to kill oral bacteria, reduce decay, whiten teeth, and improve your gum health. It is often fortified with calcium and vitamins to keep your mouth and body healthy.

Brush your teeth twice daily for 2 minutes using a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Floss in between each tooth nightly. It’s best to limit your consumption of sugary foods and drinks to keep tooth decay at bay.
